Transit of Venus Project

UPADTE AUGUST 2008 Transit of Venus Project First Single released

‘Enemy’ is a rewrite of a theme song written for Derelict (NZ indie shooter game). The first single from Transit of Venus Project, it was recorded and mixed in the indie DIY way - in a bedroom! (Of course, the bed had been previously removed to make way for the piano and all the guitars….)

Enemy will be only released digitally. You can download Enemy as a high resolution MP3 for $1.99 from Amplifier.co.nz.

Credits:

Kristie Addison: Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Piano,

Mike Johns: Lead Guitar

Mark Towl: Drums

Recorded and Mixed by Kristie Addison

Mastered by Michelle Klaessens at The Rock Factory

Transit of Venus Project is my solo album project - currently a work in progress.  You can find more details and my blog at www.transitofvenusproject.com. Below is a bunch of demos and songs in various stages of being written.

A Transit of Venus is when the planet Venus passes between the earth and the sun.  The planet can be seen to travel across the face of the sun as a not-very-spectacular black dot.  The distance from the earth to the sun was first calculated by comparing measurements of the transit taken from both of earths hemispheres.  Captain James Cook was in fact in the southern hemisphere to take these measurements when he came across New Zealand in his ship the Endeavor - which is on New Zealand’s fifty cent coin.

I vaguely remember learning this from a Physics paper on Planets Stars and Galaxies, but what I most remember about that lecture was thinking “Transit of Venus would be a great band/album name”.

The songs from my Transit of Venus Project are all songs I’ve written with the purpose of learning as much as possible about songwriting, singing, playing, recording, and mixing. I might not ever come up with something finished this way, but I’m learning a lot, and that’s what this project is all about. These songs are Works in Progress and tend to get updated moderately irregularly, so check back on them from time to time and see how they are doing.
